Public Speaking

What is it?

Public speaking is speaking to a group of people in a structured, deliberate manner intended to inform, influence, or entertain the listeners.

The purpose of public speaking can range from simply transmitting information, to motivating people to act, to simply telling a story. A good orator should be able to change the emotions of their listener, not just inform them. An effective public speaker must do proper research, have a well informed opinion and be able to express that opinion persuasively and with conviction.

Using the Trinity Guildhall syllabus, the public speaking programme will also improve the following vital skills:

  1. Researching
  2. News and current affairs reading and analysis
  3. Presentation
  4. Critical thinking
  5. Opinion and idea forming
