Dawn Cheong is a graduate of Toi Whakaari the National School of Dance and Drama. She has focused most of her studying on devised theatre and gone to study Butoh dance in Yokohama with legendary teacher Yoshito Ohno, son of Kazuo Ohno. Upon graduating, Dawn has unexpectedly done more acting than devise, going on to do theatre, television and film. She was nominated for best actress at the Malaysian Film Critics Award, she was also nominated for Best Actress and Most Promising Actor which she did win at Film Festival Malaysia. She recently won ‘Most Outstanding Performance’ at the Wellington Theatre Awards 2017, for The Night Mechanics, written and directed by Miria George.

Dawn is a ‘sometimes’ playwright when not on stage, she has gone on to win Best Female Playwright and Runner-Up for Best Play from the Adam New Zealand Play Award. She will be having in her play for The Susan Smith Blackburn prize upon completion.
